Willy Rottmann (born June 21, 1924 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1949 he won the East German Football Cup with BSG Waggonbau Dessau and played for a short time with Dessau in the East German Zone League in 1949 and 1950 .

Athletic career

When national football championships were allowed to take place in the Soviet occupation zone for the first time in 1948 after the end of the Second World War , the SG Dessau-Nord participated in the state championship in Saxony-Anhalt . The 24-year-old Willy Rottmann also belonged to the squad that had finished second in the southern season at the end of 1949. Dessau also played in the parallel state cup competition and was only defeated 1: 2 in the final ECW Eilenburg. As a finalist, however, the Dessau residents were eligible to take part in the first-ever competition for the East German FDGB Cup . There, too, they made it to the final , now converted to the company sports association (BSG) Waggonbau Dessau, and this time they won 1-0 against Gera-Süd . In this game, Rottmann was called up as a left winger.

By winning the Cup, Dessau qualified for the East German Zone League (later DS-Oberliga, GDR Oberliga ), which went into its first season in 1949/50. Rottmann was part of the squad and was used from the first point game. After seven matchdays he had already scored four goals, but it stayed that way until the end of the season. After the winter break, he was only used sporadically, so that he completed the season in 26 played point games with only 17 appearances. In the 1950/51 season, the Dessau team now played as BSG Motor, Rottmann was only called up once on the 4th matchday, after which he did not appear in higher-class football.
