NGC 6936 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Capricorn on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 264 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 145,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxy NGC 6924 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 1, 1885 by the astronomer Francis Leavenworth with his 26-inch telescope and later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
