Willy Staeheli

Willy Stäheli (born April 6, 1915 in Räuchlisberg ; † March 8, 1996 in Binningen ) was a Swiss teacher , draftsman , illustrator and painter . He created illustrations, prints, drawings and tempered paintings.

life and work

Stäheli was the son of an accountant and trained to be a prime minister. In 1938 he attended the Basel School of Applied Arts .

In 1952, Stäheli moved with his family from eastern Switzerland to Binningen and, in addition to teaching, took evening courses in painting and drawing at the Basel School of Applied Arts.

Stäheli created numerous illustrations a. a. for various school books as well as one hundred India ink drawings for the book «Baselbieter Sagen». This was published in 1976 by Paul Suter and the folklorist and writer Eduard Strübin (1914-2000) in the Basel-Landschaft publishing house. Many of Stäheli's works were created while traveling, especially in Greece .
