Willy Wendler

Willy Wendler (born February 12, 1883 in Wechselburg ; † after 1966) was a German miner and KPD / SED cultural functionary.

Life

He was born the son of a carpenter in Wechselburg in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde . At the request of his father, he learned the trade of a baker after completing his primary school education. After the outbreak of the First World War he was called up for military service in 1916 and fought for a long time on the Western Front. When he returned from the war in December 1918, there was no longer any opportunity for him to work as a baker. He went to the city of Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. to work there as a miner in the coal industry.

Willy Wendler soon joined the workers' sports movement , became a member of the KPD and took part in the suppression of the Kapp Putsch .

After the end of the Second World War, he took part in the reactivation of the coal mining industry as an activist from the very beginning , became a cultural functionary of his company and ensured that life in Oelsnitz began to pulsate again . In his hometown of Oelsnitz he was a co-founder of the FDGB , the DSF , the Volkssolidarität and the Kulturbund . On the board of the latter, he worked for over two decades, mainly in the clubhouse " Hans Marchwitza " in Oelsnitz, of which he was a member of the club council. He was also an active singer in the Volkschor Oelsnitz / Erzgeb., Organized the theater rights in Chemnitz (Karl-Marx-Stadt) and Zwickau and represented the local committee and the residential district of the National Front .
