Wilma Ohly

Wilma Ohly b. Steiner (born May 19, 1936 in Eygelshoven , Netherlands) is a German CDU local politician . She was the first woman mayor of the Sauerland district town of Olpe and the last honorary mayor before the municipal dual leadership was abolished.

Career

Born in the Netherlands as the daughter of German parents, Wilma Ohly grew up in Olpe from 1947. She attended the St.-Franziskus-Oberlyzeum (today: St.-Franziskus-Schule) from 1947 and passed the Abitur there in 1956. This was followed by a teaching degree in history and English in Münster and Munich before she started her first position at Düsseldorf. Now married to her husband Walter († 2005), she was transferred to Olpe. In 1969, immediately after the municipal reorganization, combined with the formation of the city of Olpe within its current boundaries, she moved into the Olpe council. Two electoral terms later, she replaced Alfred Enders at the head of the city council and remained mayor for 17 years. In her main occupation, Wilma Ohly was a teacher and head of the Siegen Realschule seminar and, in 1985, until her retirement, Rector of the Meggener Realschule. She received many honors for her commitment, from the silver and gold honorary goblet of the city of Olpe to the Federal Cross of Merit, first class. In her local political activities, she worked on the Sparkasse Administrative Council, among other things, she chaired the CDU's Local Political Association, was active in the state traffic watch, of which she was vice-president for many years, and in the senior citizens' union of the CDU, currently its district chairman and member of the federal executive board . She is a founding and longstanding board member of the Kreisheimatbund and is active in the Sauerland Heimatbund. She is also co-founder and chairwoman of the Olpe City Museum Association.

Wilma Ohly is the granddaughter of the former Olper district administrator Josef Schrage and mother of the lawyer Ansgar Ohly .
