Wilmkjer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilmkjer ( Danish : Vilmkær ) is a place on the German-Danish border , the southern part of which belongs to Handewitt and the northern part of the Danish area of Bau .

location

The small village of Wilmkjer is 600 meters northwest of the village of Ellund . 800 meters north is the small Danish town of Christiansminde . Wilmkjer is divided by the German-Danish border into a northern Danish part with two small farms and a German part with a single larger company site. The section of the Ellund – West road is also called Wilmkjerweg in this area.

history

In the 19th century, the Wilmkker area still belonged entirely to the municipality of Ellund. In 1875, the farmer Carsten Hansen built the Wilmkjergaard (Danish: Vilmkærgård) ( location ) farm in the then completely undeveloped area of Wilmkjer. The land belonging to it, which consisted largely of heathland , he had partly inherited and partly bought. The area with Wilmkjergaard was already marked on the map of the Prussian land survey around 1879. In 1880 Hinrich-Michael-Hub bought land near Wilmkjer, which also consisted largely of heathland. On this land he built the second Wilmkjer farm, which today has the address Kristiansmindevej 16 ( Lage ).

After the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, Wilmkjer, as part of the municipality of Ellund, was completely assigned to Germany. But when the two Wilmkjer farms made a personal application to the responsible commission in Flensburg to be separated from Germany and incorporated into Denmark, the request was approved due to the prevailing political situation. (A similar case was also the case with Simondys .) The field area up to the level of the settlement Kolonisthuse was accordingly added to the now Danish neighboring municipality of Frøslev , which resulted in today's small hook in the demarcation of this area. The house and the stables of the Wilmkjergaard farm have been on the Danish side of the border since then, but the majority of the grain fields remained, contrary to what the applicant had hoped, on the German side of the border. Because of this problem, the Hansen family built a barn on the German side of Wilmkjer in 1927.

In 1980 the German-Danish natural gas transport company (Deudan) was founded, which taps a natural gas pipeline near Vilmkær, which leads from the Netherlands to Norway, to supply the town of Handewitts and neighboring areas. Deudan bought the Kristiansmindevej 16 farm to lay the European natural gas pipeline. Directly south of the courtyard, on the German side, at Wilmkjerweg 1, the company apparently built further buildings and facilities. The land bought by the company on the Danish side was then leased to the Hansen family. Furthermore, apparently at least one courtyard building was rented for residential purposes.

Wilmkjer border crossing

The border crossing at Wilmkjer or Vilmkær was created as a result of the border being drawn in 1920. The Wilmkjer border crossing did not have a barrier, which was unique for a Danish border crossing after the Second World War . The lonely border crossing became a popular smuggler route. In the past, visitors to the farmer Hansen were therefore often strictly controlled. In the 1980s, the Danish side erected a border fence for the first time to prevent the spread of swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease . In 2019 the so-called wild boar fence was also built in this area of the border. In May 2019, German and Danish youths protested at the Hansen's court against this fence, in which they used it as a volleyball net.
