The Wilson Nunatakker are an irregular chain of Nunatakkern in the southeasternmost extent in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . They rise up in the Heritage Range , the southern half of the Ellsworth Mountains .
The Nunatakker - rocks protruding from the surrounding ice - stretch for a length of about 8 miles (the equivalent of 12.9 kilometers) in a west-east direction between the Douglas Peaks in the west and the ice-filled bay Hercules Inlet in the east. The easternmost nunatak of the chain is the Fusco nunatak ( erroneously listed as the westernmost nunatak in the Geographic Names Information System , the database of the United States Geological Survey ).
The Wilson Nunatakker got their name from a research expedition from the University of Minnesota , which visited this area in the summer of 1964-65. They named it after Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth Wilson, a 62nd Transportation Detachment pilot who had supported the expedition.
