The Hercules Inlet is a large, narrow and icy bay on the coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It forms part of the southwestern edge of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf and marks the southern end of the Zumberge coast . To the west it is bounded by the southeast flank of the Heritage Range , to the north by the Skytrain Ice Rise .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the bay in 1966 after the Lockheed C-130 Hercules , which the support units of the United States Navy in Antarctica use for the creation of aerial photographs and for the transport of materials.
