Wincenty Niemojowski

Wincenty Niemojowski (born April 5, 1784 in Slupin , † 1834 ) was a Polish liberal politician.

Life

He came from a respected family and was the brother of Bonawentura Niemojowski . He studied in Halle an der Saale and in Erlangen law . In Erlangen he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia in 1802 and of the Corps Marchia in 1804. He then worked in the administration in Kalisz during the Duchy of Warsaw . In 1818 he was elected to the Parliament of Congress Poland . Together with his brother he organized a liberal opposition movement against the violation of the Constitution of 1815 by the Russians. Since both brothers were elected in the Kalisz region, their political group was called Kaliszanie . He has been arrested several times for his political stance.

During the November uprising of 1830/31 he was a member of the Polish national government. He was Vice President of the Government and was responsible for administration and police. After the unrest in Warsaw in August 1831, he resigned from his government office. He was also the editor of the daily Kurier Poranny (morning courier) in Warsaw.

He was against the dictatorship of Józef Chłopicki and advocated democratization of parliament. However, he was opposed to a social revolution.

After the uprising ended, he was arrested by the Russians. He refused to sign the act of submission. He was first sentenced to death, then pardoned for forced labor and died on the way to exile in Siberia .
