The El Arrayán wind farm ( Parque Eólico El Arrayán in Spanish ) is a wind farm near the small town of Ovalle , Región de Coquimbo , Chile . It is located about 400 km north of Santiago de Chile .
Construction of the wind farm began in May 2012. The first wind turbine was built on October 29, 2013. The wind farm went into operation in June 2014. It was officially opened on August 30, 2014 by the then President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet .
The El Arrayán wind farm consists of 50 Siemens SWT-2.3-101 turbines , each with an output of 2.3 MW . At the time of opening, it was the largest wind farm in Chile with an installed capacity of 115 MW . The total cost of the project is given as $ 245 (or 300) million .
The wind farm is owned by a joint venture between Pattern Energy Group Inc (70%) and Antofagasta Minerals SA (30%). It is operated by Pattern Energy.
