The wind farm XI is an in-planning wind farm in Iowa in the United States . It is being developed by MidAmerican Energy and should be built by 2019 [obsolete] . The wind farm has a planned, installed capacity of 2,000 MW . The investment volume amounts to 3.6 billion US dollars . That would make it the largest wind farm in the country and, according to the company, the largest private-sector investment ever made in Iowa. The project would also generate around $ 12.5 million in taxes and 18 million in lease income, among other things.

History and construction

The project was first presented in April 2016. The building permit for the project was granted in August 2016. Construction should begin that same year. The first locations for the project were announced in January 2017. The two wind farms are to be built in the communities of Boone , Greene and Mahaska from April 2017 and completed by the end of 2017. The Beaver Creek subproject will have 85 turbines and thus 170 MW and the Prairie Wind project will have 84 turbines with 168 MW.

technology

The wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has signed a supply contract for 1,000 turbines of the type V110-2.0 MW with MidAmerican Energy. In addition to the turbines, a five-year maintenance contract was concluded.
