The Windward Performance DuckHawk is a single-seat glider of the standard class , that of Windward Performance in Bend was developed and built.

The aircraft has not been offered since 2016.

construction

The DuckHawk is derived from the Windward Performance SparrowHawk , structurally reinforced construction with higher flight performance. The cell of the means Deckers in prepreg - CFK -Schalenbauweise has a cantilevered wing with electrically activated valve positions of the flaperons , double-deck air brakes at the top, a cross-tail and an electrically braked on and retractable main wheel. By using high-temperature prepregs, it is possible to paint in colors other than white. Ballast tanks for 180 l of water are located in the wings.

Versions

  • DuckHawk E - Electric motor glider version, FAA approved on August 9, 2011.
  • DuckHawk V (Veloce) - basic model with 180 kg empty weight, 440 kg maximum take-off weight and + 7 / −5g load factor. FAA approval in 2014, three aircraft built.
  • DuckHawk SV (Super Veloce) - project with 64% thicker spar and reinforced hull, 197 kg empty and 440 kg max. Starting mass, + 11 / −9g load factor
  • DuckHawk VNX - project with thicker wing shell for 417 km / h top speed, 206 kg empty and 520 kg max. Starting mass, + 11 / −9g load factor

use

Chip Garner won the US Gliding Championship in 2012 in the 15m class and came second in the 18m class. In December 2016 were in the United States four airplanes - three DuckHawk V and a DuckHawk E - approved by the FAA.
