Winfrid Eisenberg

Winfrid Eisenberg (born February 14, 1937 in Hanau , Hessen) is a German pediatrician . From 1984 to 2002 he was the chief physician of the children's clinic at the Herford Clinic and is a peace and environmental activist.

Eisenberg grew up in Hanau, Hesse . After studying medicine, he went to a jungle hospital in Tanzania with his family for three and a half years . This time shaped him. Back in Germany, he finished his specialist training as a pediatrician in Bethel . Then he got a job in the children's clinic as a senior physician in Herford . He quickly gained professional recognition. Therefore, he became chief physician of the children's clinic in 1984 when this position became vacant. At the same time, Eisenberg was politically involved first in the peace movement and later also in the anti-nuclear power movement . He was involved in founding the IPPNW in Germany. He is also active in the Herford peace and refugee support group. He was also one of the initiators of the founding of the Herford Peacebuilding Energy Cooperative after the Fukushima nuclear disaster . In addition, Eisenberg wrote reports for the IPPNW - u. a. about the negative effects of radiation exposure. His report for the incorrect determination of the age of refugee minors caused a sensation nationwide.

Actions

In July 1986 Winfrid Eisenberg occupied the cooling tower of the Hamm- Uentrup nuclear power plant together with Bärbel Schröder, Karsten Otte, Hermann Wiesing, Sigurd Elert and Eric Bachmand. Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Winfrid Eisenberg because of the occupation, but were later discontinued.

Honors

In 2004 Winfrid Eisenberg was awarded the Heiko Ploeger Prize for moral courage from the city of Herford, which was awarded until 2010 .
