Wings Gaming is a Chinese esports organization that is particularly successful in Dota 2 , a computer game in the " Action Real-Time Strategy " genre .

history
Wings Gaming was founded in 2014. In the first year of its existence, the organization, which was marked by many substitutions, achieved only a few minor successes at national level. On August 25, 2015, Wings signed the five Chinese Chu "shadow" Zeyu , Zhou "bLink" Yang , Zhang "Faith_bian" Ruida , Zhang "Innocence" Yiping and Li "iceice" Peng . The quintet finished its first international appearance at the World Cyber Arena 2015 with a fourth place. The team achieved its international breakthrough at ESL One Manilla 2016 when it beat the runner-up in the 2016 Shanghai Major , Team Liquid , in the final. At the Manila Major 2016 , however, Wings dropped out early.
With their unpredictable style of play, Wings established itself in the professional scene and was the first Chinese team to qualify for The International 2016 , whose prize money of over 20 million US dollars was mainly financed by the community. The Dota 2 team made strong appearances at the Nanyang Championships Season 2 , where it was only just beaten by national rival Newbee , and at The Summit 5 , where Wings won the final against two-time major winner OG .
The The International 2016 started for Wings Gaming after two defeats against the Ukrainian representative Natus Vincere and the Filipino participants TnC Gaming uncertain. However, the team found their way back into the tournament and ended the group stage in the top half of the table. Wings completed the play-offs with ease. With only one play-off defeat in seven games, the team moved into the final of The International 2016. In the decisive best-of-5 match against Digital Chaos , Wings started with a risky selection of heroes in the first game that was not rewarded with a win. However, the team fought their way back and initially equalized. The quintet Digital Chaos and their heroine Mirana held up in the other games and finally won 3: 1. In addition to prize money of more than nine million US dollars, unprecedented in esports, Wings Gaming also won The Aegis of Champions trophy .
