history

The club was founded by four football players from SC Veltheim , who came across Flag Football through their interest in American football . Later they started with 5-on-5 training sessions in Eulachpark and were able to compete with the flag football team of the Winterthur Warriors . In 2013 the Winterthur Red Lions were founded. In their first season they were able to qualify as a surprise team and runner-up in the group for a wildcard game at the play-offs, which they also won. In their second season they were able to finish the group stage as first place, even before last year's champions St. Gallen Vipers , but lost to the same in the play-offs semi-finals with 52:58. In the third season it finally worked after a 47:39 victory in the final against the ASVZ Mockingbirds with the Swiss championship title for Winterthur. As Swiss champions, they could then also take part in the European Champions Bowl, but only managed to reach 11th place out of 12. In the next season they reached the play-offs final again, but could not beat the Zurich Renegades there . In 2017, the team was eliminated in the play-offs quarter-finals against the ASVZ Mockingbirds.
