In Schleswig-Holstein, political issues are already addressed in elementary school within the framework of home and material lessons (HSU), but political lessons in secondary and secondary schools do not begin until the 8th / 9th grade. History of the subject in Schleswig-Holstein

In 1970, the subject of work studies was approved for testing at secondary schools.

In 1973, the then Minister of Education, Walter Braun, appointed a “Central Committee for Political Education”. This presented a report that recommended a separate subject to promote political education.

In the same year it was decided that a new subject called "Economics / Politics" should be introduced. It was stipulated that those contents of industrial studies that cannot be covered by the subjects of technical works, textile works and home economics should be brought into the new subject. This also included professional orientation . Political education should also be represented in this subject.

After a lengthy trial phase, the subject was added to the general timetable in 1980 ( Hauptschule ) and 1981 ( Realschule ). It was not until almost twenty years later that the subject was introduced to the upper levels of grammar schools.

Content

In addition to political and economic education, a central area of ​​the subject is also career choice lessons.

Training of teachers

The teachers are trained at the University of Flensburg and the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .
