Political education for the vocational school
This page provides an overview of what is taught in politics at vocational schools in Germany .

According to the agreement of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) of May 18, 1984, there are six learning areas for industrial and technical training professions (such as electronics technicians , mechatronics technicians ). These form a minimum standard. Each federal state also has a framework curriculum that is based on the resolution of the KMK. In addition to these learning areas, current political issues are also dealt with in the classroom .
With the decision of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs on May 10, 2007, the six learning areas are expanded.
The six learning areas
- Vocational training
The learning area deals with the legal basis of the vocational training relationship, in particular with the Vocational Training Act , the Crafts Code , the vocational training contract (contractual partner, conclusion, duration, termination) as well as the mutual rights and obligations from the vocational training contract. Furthermore, the options for further training and retraining are described. It is conveyed which measures of vocational training and retraining are available and which state support measures ( Arbeitsförderungsgesetz , Ich-AG ) are possible.
This involves the structure, tasks and corporate forms of a company as well as its position in the economy and society. It is considered how a craft or industrial company is structured. Particular emphasis is placed on business administration , the business process and economic organization . The main tasks of a company ( procurement , production , sales ) are explained and the position of the craft or industrial company in the economy as well as the main goals of commercial and public companies ( profit making , cost recovery ) are considered. Important operational parameters such as productivity , economic efficiency and profitability, but also the types of company and their economic significance themselves ( sole proprietorship , partnership , OHG , KG , corporation , AG , GmbH or cooperative ) as well as the economic interdependencies, economic and Working world-related basic statements of the constitution ( welfare state , Basic Law ) illuminated. The economic, legal and social relationships between business, business, associations , parties , society and the state also fall into this subject area, as do the tasks of employee and employer organizations ( trade union , employers' association ) or the representation of interests by organizations of employees and employers ( guild , IHK ).
- Labor law and collective bargaining law, occupational safety
This learning area deals with the essential areas of employment contracts , labor law and occupational safety. Learning content on wage and salary payments , working hours and working time regulations ( Working Hours Act ) is imparted. This area deals with the employee's opportunities for participation and co-determination in the company. These include the Works Constitution Act and the Codetermination Act , the tasks of the works council and youth representatives .
The regulations and the importance of statutory social insurance and their different types and tasks of health and long-term care insurance , accident insurance , pension insurance and unemployment insurance are described. Furthermore, the historical development of social insurance ( history of social insurance in Germany , Imperial Embassy ), the different insurance principles ( personal responsibility , subsidiarity , solidarity ) and the individual social insurance carriers , compulsory insurance , contribution payments and benefits.
- Labor and social justice
This is about the most important regulations of labor and social justice . The tasks and areas of competence of the labor court ( court order , labor court law ) and the social court ( social court law ) are dealt with.
The subject areas of the European Union or general German politics do not belong to these six learning areas .
