The Scientific Society Swakopmund ( English Scientific Society Swakopmund ) is the scientific society in Swakopmund on the central coast of Namibia .
It is a not-for-profit private organization . It is responsible for the Sam Cohen Library , the Swakopmund Museum and the historic buildings of the Otavi Station and OMEG House . The Scientific Society Swakopmund collects, receives and exhibits cultural and scientific objects, with a special focus on Namibia and southern Africa. Furthermore, the company forms a platform for scientific exchange by offering lectures and excursions, disseminating information and knowledge, and issuing publications such as the regular reports.
history
Initially, the Scientific Society Swakopmund was subordinate to the SWA Scientific Society in Windhoek . This branch was founded in 1951 with the "purpose and task of building a museum and raising the financial means for it". In 1968 it became independent as the Society for Scientific Development Swakopmund under the leadership of Alfons Weber .
In 2006 the society was renamed "Scientific Society Swakopmund".
