Weber's historic dental practice is on display in the Swakopmund Museum .

Alfons Maria Weber (* 1904 in Munich , † 1984 in Swakopmund ) was a German - South West African doctor of dentistry and a patron in Swakopmund. He was the founder of the Swakopmund Museum and the Sam Cohen Library and a founding member of the Swakopmund Scientific Society .

In 1931, at the age of 27, Weber emigrated from Munich to South West Africa, now Namibia . There he opened his dental practice , where he had to make many business trips inland due to the small population of Swakopmund. He showed great interest in his country and began collecting books, maps and household items at an early age. In some cases, he is said to have accepted the items for treatment instead of cash.

Weber worked and lived in the coastal town's Weber building for years . He was a close friend of Ferdinand Stich and for many years chaired the SWA National Monuments Council .

A street in the Swakopmund district of Kramersdorf is named after Weber . His life's work will be continued in the Alfons Weber Foundation , headed by his son Michael Weber until 2004 .
