Ferdinand Stich (born April 14, 1892 in Frankfurt am Main ; † March 6, 1967 in Swakopmund , South West Africa ) was a German - Namibian bibliophile and bookseller in Swakopmund in what is now Namibia .

Stich learned in Berlin and Mannheim . In 1911 he emigrated to German South West Africa .

He was a collector and owner of one of the most extensive collections on African history . Stich and his wife Alice (née Willasch), with whom he had been married since 1933, repeatedly turned down offers from all over the world to acquire the Africana collection with more than 2000 titles. Their goal was to preserve the bibliographic collection for South West Africa. In the end, the Rotary Club from Swakopmund acquired the collection and donated it to the Swakopmund Scientific Society . Sam Cohen built the Sam Cohen library especially for this purpose , the heart of which is the Ferdinand Stich Africana . In 1924, Stich became the owner of the Swakopmund bookshop , which he ran until his death. This was taken over by Hans and Anka Delius and handed over to Anton von Wietersheim in 1998 .

As a member of the city council, Stich was also politically active. He was a close friend of the dentist Alfons Weber , founder of the Swakopmund Museum .

A street in Swakopmund's Central district is named after Stich (as of 2020) .
