The Otavi train station was a train station in the Namibian coastal town of Swakopmund . Its former reception building has been a Namibian National Monument since February 1st, 2007 .
The station was built between 1903 and 1906 by the Otavi Mining and Railway Company (OMEG). The station was in operation from 1907 to around 1910 (1914) as part of the Otavibahn . The reception building was later used as a residential building. After the First World War it became the property of the South African Railways before it fell to the Namibian state-owned railway company TransNamib . The building was donated to the Swakopmund Scientific Society in 1993 .
Today (October 2014) the building is still owned by the Scientific Society Swakopmund, which also maintains the Swakopmund Museum and the Sam Cohen Library . She also owns the OMEG building , which is also a listed building and is located on the site of the train station.
An extensive renovation of the reception building and the OMEG house has been planned since August 2014.
