With the Marines at Tarawa is a 1944 American documentary .
action
The film shows the battle for the Tarawa Pacific atoll in original footage, some in color, some in black and white . This was part of the battle for the Gilbert Islands . The US marines are briefed first, equipment is checked and serviced. Then, after the landing troops have embarked in the boats, the actual attack follows, first with the naval artillery, then with attacks by the navy pilots. After the ground troops have gone ashore, a fierce battle breaks out. It shows the different weapons with which the marines fight (rifle, machine gun, hand grenades, flamethrowers). The dangers of enemies and snipers entrenched in bunkers are also addressed. In the end, the US troops took control of the atoll, and only a few Japanese were taken prisoner. Pioneers build a runway in a day. The US flag is hoisted, the exhausted and partially injured soldiers march into their camp.
