Vladimir Grigoryevich Admoni

Vladimir Grigorievich Admoni (actually Krasny-Admoni , Russian Владимир Григорьевич Адмони , scientific. Transliteration Vladimir Grigor'evic Admoni ; born 29. October 1909 in Saint Petersburg ; died 26. November 1993 ) was a Russian -jüdischer and Soviet specialist in German and Skandinavist , Linguist and literary scholar , translator , writer and poet . Vladimir Admoni is the son of the lawyer and historian Grigorij-Gojwisch Jakowljewitsch Krasnyj-Admoni (Григорий-Гойвиш Яковлевич Красный-Адмони) and his wife Raisa Адмонко.

Life

Admoni completed his German studies at the Leningrad State Pedagogical Alexander Heart University in 1930 . In 1939 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Jean Paul . During the Leningrad blockade in the winter of 1941–1942, Admoni wrote propaganda against the war, which were intended to be disseminated among German soldiers. During the time of the evacuation in Tashkent 1942–1944, he worked on Henrik Ibsen's work , on which he completed his habilitation in 1947 after the war and his return to Leningrad. In 1948 he was awarded the title of professor. In the post-war years Admoni initially taught at the 1st Leningrad Pedagogical Institute for Foreign Languages, and from 1957 again at the Leningrad State Pedagogical Alexander Heart University. There he took over the chair for German philology at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, which he headed until 1960. From 1960 to 1982 Admoni was Senior Scientific Assistant in the Leningrad Department of the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . He died in Saint Petersburg at the age of 84. His grave is in the Saint Petersburg Jewish Cemetery .

The autobiographical novel We remember ( Russian Мы вспоминаем ), published in Russian in 1993 and based on his own memoirs and those of his wife Tamara Sil'man ( Тамара Сильман ), who died in 1974, spans eight decades in addition to the lives of the two protagonists the history of the country and the fortunes of its people come alive. Many scientists, writers and composers with whom Admoni contacts and friends used to find in one place, including Viktor Zhirmunsky ( Виктор Жирмунский ), Dmitri Shostakovich ( Дмитрий Шостакович ), Osip Mandelstam ( Оссип Мандельштам ), Mikhail Zoshchenko ( Михаил Зощенко ), Anna Achmatova ( Анна Ахматова ), Erika Mann and Heinrich Böll . In the afterword of Мы вспоминаем (p. 498) the author confesses that the text comes entirely from his pen.

  • Since 2006, the "Vladimir Admoni Program" (VAP) of the DAAD , which is named after him and funded by the Federal Foreign Office, has been offering doctoral students in German studies and German as a foreign language in the countries of Central Eastern Europe, the CIS countries and, from 2018, too funded in the Middle East / North Africa region.
