Inbal Segev ( Hebrew ענבל שגב) is an American cellist of Israeli origin.

Life

Segev began playing the cello at the age of five and performed as a musical child prodigy before the Israeli president . When she was sixteen, Isaac Stern invited her to the United States, where she studied at the Juilliard School and Yale University with Aldo Parisot , Joel Krosnick Harvey Shapiro and Bernard Greenhouse , a co-founder of the Beaux Arts Trio . At the age of eighteen she made her debut in 1991 as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta .

She subsequently appeared in major concert halls in the United States and South America, participated in music festivals in Europe and Israel, and toured Spain and Colombia with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center . She is a founding member of the Amerigo Trio and has performed with musicians such as Emanuel Ax , Jeremy Denk , Gilbert Kalish , Anthony McGill , Anne Akiko Meyers , Juho Pohjonen , Jason Vieaux and the Vogler Quartet as well as her regular recital partner Juho Pohjonen. With Tian Jiang and Alon Goldstein she went on recital tours through China.

Segev became known in particular with world premieres of works by contemporary American and Israeli composers. In addition to the world premiere of Arthur Sullivan's posthumously reconstructed Cello Concerto , she also played the world premiere of David Baker's Cello Concerto, David Israel's Dance Suite for Cello solo (1995), Max Schubel's Concerto for Cello and Horn (2001), Paola Prestini's Oceano (2002), Ronn Yedidias String Trio (with the Amerigo Trio , 2010), Avner Dorman's Cello Concerto (2012), Maximo Flugelman's Cello Concerto (2012), Lucas Richmans Declaration (2015), Gity Razaz 's multimedia piece Legend of Sigh (2015), Dan Visconti's Cello Concerto (2017) , Timo Andres ' Upstate Obscura (2018) and Anna Clynes DANCE (2019).

In addition to many of the works mentioned, she also recorded cello sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven and Luigi Boccherini (with Richard Bishop , 2000), Max Stern's Bedouin Impressions (2000), chamber music by Paul Ben-Haim (2003), chamber music (with Fernando Otero and friends , 2009), serenades by Ernst von Dohnányi (with the Amerigo Trio , 2011) and Robert Schumann's Phantasiestücke together with sonatas by Fryderyk Chopin and Edvard Grieg (with Juho Puhjonen, 2018) on CD. In the film Bee Season (with Richard Gere and Juliette Binoche ) she played music from the soundtrack by Peter Nashe . With Dahong Seetoo she produced a recording of the suites for cello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach , which was broadcast on Vox Classic in 2015 .
