Vladimir Katriuk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wladimir Katriuk (born October 1, 1921 in Luschany , near Chernivtsi ; † May 2015 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield , Québec , Canada ) was a native of the Ukraine and most recently a Canadian citizen. The Simon Wiesenthal Center assumes that he was an active participant in the so-called Chatyn massacre during the Second World War . In 2012 and 2013, the center ranked him 3 of the 10 most wanted war criminals of the Second World War.

In 2012 a scientific investigation was published, based mainly on no longer secret documents from the USSR that Katriuk was involved in the 1943 massacre. The investigation into Holocaust and Genocide Studies prompted a number of Jewish organizations to call on the Canadian government in 2012 to reopen the Vladimir Katriuk case. He came to Canada in 1951 and has lived as a beekeeper southwest of Montreal since 1959 . In 2007, Canada decided to reassess its citizenship given its past.

As early as 1997, a private investigation had shown that 161 wanted Nazi war criminals could be located in Canada with the help of telephone directories alone.
