Volodymyr Mussalimov

Volodymyr Andrijowytsch Mussalimow ( Ukrainian Володимир Андрійович Мусалімов ; born December 31, 1944 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ; † November 3, 2013 in Luhansk , Ukraine) was a Soviet - Ukrainian boxer . Mussalimov won the bronze medal at the 1968 Olympic Games and the 1969 European Championships .

Career

Mussalimov won in the junior division (U19) the championships of the Eastern Bloc in 1965, the so-called tournament of Olympic hopes in Bucharest . In 1967 and 1969 he was the Soviet welterweight champion (-67 kg).

In 1967 Mussalimov won the silver medal in welterweight (-67 kg) at the pre-Olympic tournament in Mexico City . He lost the final against Manfred Wolke , GDR . At the 1968 Olympic Games , after victories over Dieter Kottysch , Germany (5-0), José Duran, Spain (5-0), and Alfonso Ramírez, Mexico (5-0), he met Manfred Wolke again in the semifinals and had to face each other give him defeat this time too (3: 2). Mussalimov won the Olympic bronze medal.

At the European Championships in 1969 Musalimow also won the bronze medal. His opponent in the semi-finals was Günther Meier , Germany . Musalimov's last success was a silver medal at the Eastern Bloc Military Championships in Miskolc in 1971 after losing the final to János Kajdi , Hungary .

In 1972 Mussalimov ended his career.
