Vladimir Petrovich Evtuschenkow ( Russian: Владимир Петрович Евтушенков ; born September 25, 1948 in Kaminshchina , Smolensk Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Russian oligarch .

Life

As the founder and majority owner of the Russian conglomerate Sistema , he is considered one of the richest Russians. His net worth was estimated at $ 6.3 billion. He is married to the sister of Jelena Baturina , who is listed as the richest woman in Russia by Forbes and who was married to the long-time mayor of Moscow , Yuri Luzhkov .

During the existence of the Soviet Union , he was able to prove himself at the beginning of his career as a factory director. Political involvement was added in the late 1980s. From 1990 he headed the Moscow City Committee for Science and Technology and converted this communal institution into a private company in 1993 according to his ideas. In the same year he founded AFK Sistema, a group active in the fields of telecommunications, microelectronics and IT services.

Between 1997 and 1999 Yevtushenkov was the chairman of the board of the Russian television broadcaster TWZ . He is a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and chairman of the committee for scientific and technical innovations and high technologies. He has been Russia's Honorary Consul in Luxembourg since 2009 . In the Forbes list of the 200 richest Russians in 2014, Yevtushenkov came in 15th place with total assets of $ 9 billion.

On September 16, 2014, Yevtushenkov was placed under house arrest on suspicion of money laundering. He was released on December 17 of the same year, and the next day President Vladimir Putin announced at a press conference that the investigation into money laundering against Yevtushenkov had been terminated. This after his majority stake in Bashneft had passed to the state. In the first instance, a court ordered Sistema to pay 136 billion rubles (around 1.8 billion euros) to the future buyer of the share package, Rosneft . The price of the Sistema shares had halved since the lawsuit became known.
