history

The Bremen ramparts on the Bremen fortifications were built between 1802 and 1811. The street Am Wall was built between the ramparts and the old town. The first building regulations for the development on this street came from 1804. A long row of 234 town houses were built on the old town side. The eaves- facing buildings with a hipped roof and the brightly plastered facades were typical here.

The three-storey, three-axle, plastered residential and commercial building with now a gable roof was built in 1843 in the era of classicism . It is the last remaining house from the first phase of construction on the street after the city wall was removed. The change in window formats with a round and straight end is interesting. In 1906 a major renovation of the house took place according to plans by master bricklayer Johann Ludwig Bartels for master carpenter Andreas Gürtel.

Today (2018) the house is used for a shop and offices. The house is located in the area of the glass roof, a glass roof over the sidewalk. In August 2018, Am Wall 172–173 opened a new kindergarten, the Walljunioren .
