history

The GEWOBAU was acquiring second post-war Mayor Michael Poeschke in 1950 by converting from the 1948 resulting savings campaign Social housing established. In the first 6 years, 6,000 new apartments were created. The doubling of Erlangen's population from 50,000 to 100,000 between 1950 and 1975 was also made possible by the construction of the high-rise housing estates in Erlangen-Bruck and - Büchenbach in the 1960s.

With the abandonment of the Ferris-Barracks by the US Army in June 1993 and the acquisition of the 101 hectare area by the city in 1997/1998, the opportunity arose to redevelop the Röthelheimpark district close to the city center , in which GeWoBau played a major role. In 2010 the company celebrated its 60th anniversary, and in 2015 the 65th anniversary.

The planned demolition of eight historic buildings on Äußere Brucker Straße was the reason for the ERBA-Siedlung referendum on May 7, 2017, in which a clear majority voted in favor of demolition. Another case of planned densification in the Büchenbach Nord district caused media coverage at the end of 2017.
