Wolf is an impact crater to the southwest of the lunar front in the Mare Nubium plain , southeast of Bullialdus crater and southwest of Nicollet .
The irregularly shaped crater is embedded in a group of elevations within the mare plain and possibly arose from the superposition of several smaller impacts.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Max Wolf .
