Wolf von Wahl (born May 23, 1942 in Bremen ) is a German mathematician who deals with partial differential equations.

He comes from the Baltic noble family von Wahl . Von Wahl received his doctorate in 1969 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen under Erhard Heinz ( Classical solutions of nonlinear wave equations in large ). He was scientific advisor and professor at the University of Bonn , from 1973 full professor at the Ruhr University Bochum and from 1977 professor for applied mathematics at the University of Bayreuth , where he retired in 2010. From 1996 he was a member of the Senate of the University of Bayreuth and from 1998 to 2002 was Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.

Among other things, he dealt with nonlinear wave equations and various differential equations of hydrodynamics, in particular the Navier-Stokes equation .

From 1976 to 1990 he was editor of the Mathematische Zeitschrift , from 1984 to 1990 as managing editor.
