Wolfgang Flad (sculptor)

Wolfgang Flad (born May 23, 1974 in Reutlingen ; civil name Wolfgang Siegfried Flad ) is a German sculptor .

Life

Flad is the oldest of seven brothers. From 1995 to 2000 he studied textile design at the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences , then until 2005 painting in the Free Art Department at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . During his studies, he worked as an artistic assistant for Julio Rondo (2001–2003), Camill Leberer (2003–2005) and Daniele Buetti (2002–2007). In 2005 he received the sponsorship award from the Columbus art foundation, Ravensburg . Since then, solo and group exhibitions have followed in the USA, many European countries, Israel and Thailand. Flad has lived and worked in Berlin since 2006. He is the father of five children (born between 1998 and 2012).

Flad's work includes reliefs , sculptures and sculptural installations .

In his relief works made of wood and aluminum, Flad experiments with dynamic motifs. The motif splash (blobs / splashes), which has been studied for years, was replaced by the motif broom (brushstrokes / brush strokes ) from 2015 . Since the creation of a 14-part work as a book illustration in December 2015, the surfaces of his wooden reliefs are no longer monochrome, but from 2016 provided with color gradients ( fade ).
