Wolfgang Gottfried Buchmüller

Wolfgang Gottfried Buchmüller OCist (born March 26, 1964 in Konstanz ) is a German priest monk of the Cistercian monastery Heiligenkreuz , who was responsible for founding a monastery in Sri Lanka from 2001 to 2009, and a theologian . In 2019 he became the successor of Karl Wallner Rector of the Philosophical-Theological College Benedict XVI.

Life

The son of an anesthetist and a primary school teacher graduated from high school in Pfullendorf in 1983. After basic military service, he studied medium and modern art history, as well as early Christian and Byzantine art history and historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Munich from 1984 to 1989 , where he obtained the title Magister Artium. In 1989 he entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Munich as a seminarist and began studying theology at the University of Munich. He entered the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz in 1991, where he continued to study theology. Christoph Schönborn ordained him on June 14, 1996 as a priest in Heiligenkreuz. He completed the chaplain year 1996/1997 in the Cistercian monastery Bochum-Stiepel . In 1997 he began a doctoral degree in Vienna , which he completed with a doctorate as Dr. theol. graduated from Josef Weismayer on January 16, 2001. In Grub was the church rector from 2000 to 2002. Since 2001 he has been a lecturer / professor for spiritual theology and religious history at the Hochschule Heiligenkreuz , where he also served as research dean from 2015-2019.

His scientific focus is the critical edition of the writings of Isaac von Stellas .
