Wolfgang Haigis

Wolfgang Haigis (born May 30, 1947 in Stuttgart ; † October 15, 2019 ) was a German physicist . He was a pioneer of biometrics and set the scientific standard with the Haigis formula for IOL calculation for hyperopic eyes and cataract surgery.

In 1980 Haigis became professor of ophthalmology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . He has published over 200 scientific publications and presented his scientific work in 500 lectures at national and international congresses. In 2009 he was the first winner of the DGII Science Prize of the German Society for Intraocular Lens Implantation, Interventional and Refractive Surgery.

Since 1981 he was a member of the Flugsport-Club Würzburg (FSCW).
