Wolfgang Hammer (born September 17, 1941 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1961/62 he played for the BSG Chemie Halle in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Hammer is also a GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

Wolfgang Hammer's career as a football player got off to a promising start when he was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team in 1960 as a player for BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau . In March and April 1960, he played with the selection of three international matches, in which he was used as a half-left striker. In the same year he played with Chemie Buna in the fourth-class district league Halle .

At the beginning of the 1961/62 season, Hammer moved to the top division chemistry Halle. In this season, which ran over 39 game days due to the change from the calendar year to the summer-spring game rhythm, Hammer only played one point game over the full time and was the right attacker in the team. He had previously played as a substitute in four other league games. Subsequently, Wolfgang Hammer did not appear in the top division of the BSG Chemie Halle.

Hammer went back from Halle to his home BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau. Between 1971 and 1977 he played 69 games there in the second-rate GDR league, scoring three goals. After the end of his career as a football player, he joined the coaching staff at BSG Chemie Buna. He worked as an assistant coach and was coach of the junior league team in the 1981/82 season.
