Wolfgang Hartung (historian)

Wolfgang Hartung (born June 19, 1946 in Weiler-Simmerberg ) is a German historian and adjunct professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen , who mainly deals with the social history of the southwestern medieval Holy Roman Empire .

Wolfgang Hartung studied history, Romance studies, German studies and sociology and was in Munich in 1971 with an economic and social history oriented work of the city Lindenberg im Allgäu doctorate . From 1974 he taught history of the Middle Ages and the early modern period at the University of Duisburg and is chairman of the Memmingen Forum for Swabian Regional History .

Hartung's work focuses on the formation of the Alemanni and Baiern tribes , the structure of the early medieval nobility , the history of Vorarlberg and the Western Allgäu and the society of the Middle Ages and early modern times , in particular poverty and marginalized social groups .
