Wolfgang Haupt (biologist)
Wolfgang Haupt (born January 24, 1921 in Bonn ; † October 16, 2005 ) was a German biologist . He was a brother of the church musician and conductor Albrecht Haupt .
Life
While he was a prisoner of war, Haupt began studying biology, chemistry and physics from 1946 . From 1947 he continued his studies at the University of Erlangen and the University of Tübingen . In 1952 he received his doctorate in botany under Erwin Bünning in Tübingen . In 1957 he completed his habilitation.
Haupt had been a full professor at the University of Erlangen since 1962 and turned down offers from the Universities of Heidelberg and Tübingen to take over chairs there. In 1988 Wolfgang Haupt retired .
Wolfgang Haupt was married to Gerda Rohde-Haupt and had four children with her.
Act
The focus of his scientific work was plant physiology . He investigated the formation of flowers , the induction of polarity , the movement of chloroplasts and the germination of fern spores under the influence of light as well as the phytochrome system. He has published numerous publications on plant photobiology .
