Wolfgang Jähnichen (born August 2, 1939 in Dresden ) is a German local politician.

Life

He is the son of the lawyer Hans-Georg Jähnichen and his wife Käthchen Jähnichen. He finished school in 1957 with the Abitur, old language branch, at the boarding school of the Dresden Kreuzchor and then went to Hamburg, where he worked on construction sites from Dyckerhoff & Widmann and obtained the German higher education entrance qualification for SBZ high school graduates. As a scholarship holder of the Mayor-Max-Brauer-Stiftung for the promotion of the gifted , he studied construction and transport at the TU Hannover until 1967 .

Subsequently, he was personal advisor to the chairman of the board of the Hamburger Hochbahn and passed the examination for operations manager for tram and subway companies at the regional examination office in Frankfurt / Main. From 1973 to 1978 he was managing director of a subsidiary of the Rheinische Bahngesellschaft , which was responsible for the operational planning and implementation of the construction of the subways in Düsseldorf and Duisburg.

1979 to 1993 he was first head of the planning department, then department director and operations manager traffic surface of the Berlin transport company . Subsequently, until his retirement he was managing director of the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe and at the same time founding managing director of the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund . He then worked as a freelance consultant for transport companies. As a contemporary witness, he gives lectures across Germany on selected events in German history between 1950 and 1990.

Act

Wolfgang Jähnichen is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin and chairman of the Friends and Patrons of this museum and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by the Federal President in 2014 .

He is a member of the board of directors of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) Berlin-Brandenburg and is reading mentor at the Humboldthain elementary school in Berlin-Wedding, the majority of whose students have a migration background. Wolfgang Jähnichen is a member of the board of directors of the Rotary Club Berlin-Spree and was its elected president.

Wolfgang Jähnichen has been a member of the SPD and ver.di since 1961 . He was a board member of the District Assembly (BVV) Berlin-Schöneberg and until 2018 chairman of the third largest OV of the SPD in Brandenburg. He was a member of the city council of Falkensee and its committee for urban development , environment and economy as well as deputy chairman of the parliamentary group. In 1986 he founded the current “Mobility” technical committee at the SPD Berlin's LV and is a member of the SPD's state working groups on transport in Brandenburg and Saxony. After he withdrew from active local politics in mid-2019, he was elected to the board of the general assembly of the non-partisan European Union, Havelland district association.
