Wolfgang Köberer

Wolfgang Köberer (born August 1, 1949 in Selters ) is a German lawyer and navigation historian.

Life

After graduating from high school (1968) at Martin-Butzer-Gymnasium in Dierdorf, Köberer did alternative service in the black ghetto in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . He then studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . During his studies, he was a member of a student working group that held regular discussions with prisoners and from which a five-year rehabilitation project for the German Research Foundation emerged.

After his 2nd state examination, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair for Criminal Law and Criminal Policy in the Law Faculty of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.

Wolfgang Köberer has been a lawyer and defense attorney in the criminal law firm "HammPartner", which was founded in 1979 by Rainer Hamm and Werner Sarstedt , since 1984 . In 1995 he was with a thesis on the social sciences and mathematics and basis of sentencing doctorate .

Wolfgang Köberer has been dealing with the history of navigation and nautical charts since the mid-1970s. In 1981 he discovered the oldest - hitherto unknown - manual of navigation in (Low) German, which was reissued as a facsimile by the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven in 2009 by Oceanum Verlag. Since then, in addition to legal studies, he has published a series of articles on the history of navigation and a bibliography on the history of navigation in German. In November 2012 he was elected an associate member of the Academia de Marinha, the scientific institute of the Portuguese Navy.
