Wolfgang Krapp

Wolfgang Krapp (born July 22, 1933 ) is a former German police officer. He was head of the main combat groups department in the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) of the GDR .

Life

In 1950 Krapp became a member of the German People's Police (DVP) and a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). Until 1952 he served in the guard battalion in Erfurt and in the state police authority of Thuringia. From 1952 to 1955 he worked as a clerk and section head in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) and State Secretariat for State Security (SfS), from 1955 to 1958 as an officer for organization with the Inner Troops in Berlin. From 1959 to 1963 he acted as acting head of the organization / verification department of the Berlin riot police. After studying at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy from 1963 to 1965, he was deputy head of the main readiness department from 1965 to 1969 and from 1972 in the rank of lieutenant colonel of the VP head of the main department combat groups in the MdI (successor to Karl Mellmann ). On July 1, 1973 he was promoted to colonel in the VP and on June 30, 1978, Erich Honecker appointed him major general. After the decision of the Council of Ministers of the GDR on December 14, 1989 to end the activity of the combat group units by June 30, 1990, Krapp was responsible for the liquidation of the combat groups until May 1990.
