Lämmle was a trained printer who, as an artist and owner of a gallery, had put self-made copies of well-known painters in the Swabian region on the market as originals and was discovered in 1988. With his forgeries, he is said to have sold around 100,000 D-Marks (2020: approx. 85,000 euros) within three years. Lämmle got away with a suspended sentence and moved to France, where he founded a painting school in Périgord . As a result, Lämmle was able to benefit from media interest. There were successful auctions of his imitations and several TV programs dedicated to him. In 2007 he emigrated to Australia. Lämmle published several books.
