Wolfgang Leder

Wolfgang Leder (born August 11, 1936 in Duisburg , † February 1, 1978 ) was a German composer and conductor.

biography

Wolfgang Leder received his first private piano lessons at the age of 10.

From 1954 to 1955 he studied at the State University for Theater and Music in Halle with Hans-Georg Görner , majoring in composition. After the dissolution of the university in Halle, Wolfgang Leder continued his studies at the Leipzig University of Music . Until his state examination in 1959, he studied oboe and composition with Johannes Weyrauch , Paul Schenk and the chamber virtuoso Willi Gerlach .

From 1972 to 1973 he studied conducting and composition at the "Hans-Eisler" Music Academy in Berlin .

From 1959 Wolfgang Leder was principal oboist in the staff music corps of the air force of the GDR in Cottbus and from 1962 deputy director of the orchestra until he took over its direction in 1977.

His first compositions were made during his student days. Numerous other compositions such as marches, concert band music, dance and light music as well as folk music were composed mainly during his activity in Cottbus. Here he was also a member, and later chairman, of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR in the Cottbus district.

By 1971, 120 arrangements for wind orchestras, symphony and chamber orchestras as well as folk art groups and associations were known, many of his compositions are listed at GEMA.

Some of his works have been released on records and on CD.

During the preparations for a gala concert in the town hall of Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz), Wolfgang Leder died on February 1, 1978 at the age of 41.
