Paul Schenk (musicologist)
Paul (Edmund) Schenk (born February 11, 1899 in Leipzig ; † August 30, 1977 there ) was a German music theorist .
Schenk studied theory, composition and conducting at the Leipzig Conservatory , where he also received a teaching position for music theory from 1925. His studies with Sigfrid Karg-Elert , whose music theory Schenk accepted and propagated, was formative.
Immediately after her first electoral successes, Schenk joined the NSDAP and in his textbooks used all the essential aspects of " folkish " music education .
In 1949 he was appointed professor for composition and aural training and headed the composition (music theory) department at the Leipzig University of Music until his retirement in 1964. Schenk had a decisive influence on an entire generation of music theorists in the GDR .
