State University for Theater and Music Halle
The State University for Theater and Music Halle was a university in Halle an der Saale that existed from 1947 to 1955 .
history
The Musikhochschule Halle was one of those music academies in the Soviet Zone and the GDR that were re-established after 1945.
In March and April 1947, the composer and conductor Hans Stieber was commissioned by the state government of Saxony-Anhalt ( Hübener II cabinet ) to set up a music academy in Halle an der Saale . Regardless of the difficult post-war period in the Soviet Zone , the university was opened on June 1, 1947 in what was then the " August Bebel House for studying the culture of the Soviet Union ". The institution started with nine professors and 53 students. Due to the lack of space, a private school was also used on Klosterstrasse . In the winter semester of 1947, the theater department was put into operation, which is located in the August-Bebel-Haus. The music department moved to Klosterstrasse .
Hans Stieber won for piano lessons from Sigfridgrundis and Bronisław von Poźniak . Violin teachers were Edgar Wollgandt and Walther Davisson . Music theory was taught by Franz von Glasenapp and Hans Kleemann . The musicological lessons, but also the score and figured bass playing were taken over by Max Schneider . The exams took place in the Villa Lehmann . About 40 musicians came together in a university orchestra, which attracted not only teachers and students, but also members of the Halle Symphony Orchestra . Rehearsals took place in the Gildehaus in Große Nikolaistraße . In addition, there was a university choir , which u. a. appeared in the Church of St. Stephen .
Further university professors were hired u. a .: Edith Laux , Kurt Wichmann , Eleonora Sadowska and Kurt Seipt for singing, Otto Kobin , Hans Bülow , Arthur Bohnhardt and Fritz Kirmse for violin, Christian Klug for cello, Oskar Kollarczik for trumpet and Adolf Carl for bassoon and later Franz Langer , Otto Goldhammer , Adolf Havlik and Kurt Johnen for piano. Alfred Durra , Karl Kendzia and Sigurd Baller worked in the theater department . Again because of a lack of space, the university moved to Villa Lehmann in 1949.
Prominent full-time teachers in the 1950s also included Walther Siegmund-Schultze (music history), Fritz Reuter (music theory), Werner Gößling (conducting) and Heinz Rückert (opera direction). Under director Alfred Hetschko the possibility was shadowing of working music educators introduced.
In 1947/48 Stieber reported concerns about the continued existence of the house, since the neighboring music academies in Leipzig and Weimar had already established themselves. Probably for political reasons, Stieber had to relinquish management in 1948. In 1950 the theater department closed. In the summer of 1955, work at the Halle Music Academy was stopped. The house was taken over by the Pedagogical Institute, at which 70 students then matriculated. Alfred Hetschko became the head of this facility.
