Wolfgang Lentsch

Wolfgang Lentsch (* 1939 ) is an Austrian musician, educator and conductor.

Lentsch graduated from the University of Music in Vienna in 1962 after studying to be a teacher . After his training, Lentsch taught at the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Eisenstadt until his retirement in 1999 . In addition to teaching at the Eisenstadt grammar school, Wolfgang Lentsch was active as a music educator and teacher trainer at the Pedagogical Academy in Eisenstadt.

In 1978 Lentsch founded the "Eisenstädter Singkreis" and became artistic director of the "Joseph Haydn Eisenstadt Chamber Orchestra". Lentsch sees music education outside of school as the focus of his efforts to educate young people. He was particularly committed to children's concerts and listening lessons.

His musical work has received numerous awards and honors: In 1994 Lentsch was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit of the Free City of Eisenstadt; 1996 the medal of honor "Saint Martinus" of the Diocese of Eisenstadt in gold and the Joseph Haydn Memorial Medal of the Free City of Eisenstadt in gold. In 1999 he was honored with the Great Decoration of Honor of the Province of Burgenland .

In 2015 Lentsch handed over the management of the Haydn Orchestra Eisenstadt to his successor Peter Schreiber.
