Athletic career

Until 1971 Wolfgang Liptow played for the sports community of the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe , most recently in the fourth class district class Leipzig . For the 1971/72 season he moved to the relegated league chemistry Leipzig. There he belonged to the regular squad in the GDR league first half as a midfielder, while he was only a substitute player in the second half. The BSG Chemie ended the league season as a relay winner and took part in the promotion round to the league, which eventually led to promotion. In the eight promotion games Liptow was used again regularly in all eight encounters, in which he also came to scoring once. For the top division season 1972/73 Wolfgang Liptow was named in the top division squad of Chemie Leipzig, but was never used.

Instead, he played that season for the third-rate district division club BSG Rotation 1950 Leipzig , with whom he was district champion in 1973 and rose to the GDR league. In the GDR league season 1973/74 Liptow played for the BSG rotation as the only player all 22 point games and was top scorer of his team with ten goals. At the end of the season, rotation had to relegate from the GDR league again. Until 1977 Liptow played with rotation in the district league, then the team was relegated to the district class.

Liptow took the descent as an opportunity to switch to the BSG Baukombinat Leipzig. This was promoted to the district class in the past season, and Liptow helped her to march through to the district league in 1977/78. There Liptow later ended his career as a football player.
