Wolfgang Luftensteiner (born October 21, 1955 in Leoben ) is an Austrian manager and politician (SPÖ). He is director of the Dr. Karl Renner Museum in Gloggnitz and regional office manager of the Dr. Karl Renner Institute Lower Austria. in St. Pölten as well as managing councilor in the market town of Altlengbach in Lower Austria.

education and profession

After graduating from the BRG Bruck / Mur at the University of Graz, Wolfgang Luftensteiner studied business administration and graduated in 1983 with a master's degree. In addition, after completing the state coaching training for volleyball, he worked as a lecturer at the Federal Institute for Physical Education in Graz. As an active volleyball player at Bundesliga clubs in Bruck and Graz, he was also part of the Austrian men's national team in 1977/78.

His professional career began as a product manager in marketing at Unilever (Vienna) and Mars (Breitenbrunn), before he took over the first management position as Country Manager Austria in 1986 as Managing Director of Ravensburger Spiele GmbH (Vienna) and then in 1990/91 for Ravensburger as Marketing Director in the USA. Here he was able to complete his education with an Executive MBA program at Columbia University New York.

Back in Austria, he worked for Vetropack Austria GmbH from 1992 to 1996. in Pöchlarn as director of marketing and sales, member of the management. During this time he was also Austria's representative in the Container Glass Committee of the European Glass Industry (FEVE) in Brussels.

He then took on another top management position as Country Manager and Managing Director of Braun Electric Austria in Vienna. In this function he was also the spokesman for the small electrical appliance industry in the Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (FEEI) in Vienna.

After the merger of four Gillette companies (Braun, Gillette, Duracell, Oral-B), Luftensteiner was Country Manager and Managing Director of the newly created Gillette Group Austria, based in Wiener Neudorf, with sole responsibility for the Group's Austrian business until the end of 2002 . During this time he was a board member of the Austrian Association of Branded Goods and also a university lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Wolfgang Luftensteiner was already politically active in his youth in the young generation of the SPÖ Bruck / Mur and the VSSTÖ Graz. From the year 2000 he became involved in the community politics of his new place of residence Altlengbach. From September 2003 to March 2015 he was mayor of the market town of Altlengbach and from March 2015 to February 2019 he was the first vice mayor of the market town of Altlengbach. Since then he has been the managing councilor.

From 2003 to 2018 he was state education secretary of the SPÖ Lower Austria and a member of the SPÖ state party executive.

In addition, he was local party chairman of the SPÖ Altlengbach from 2005 to 2018 and has been chairman of Volkshilfe Wienerwald since 2007.

In addition, he has been chairman of the Laabental Music School Association since 2003 and vice-chairman of the community association for environmental protection and tax collection in the St. Pölten-Land district since 2010 .
