Wolfgang Manig (* 1958 ) is a German diplomat .

Life

Manig studied law in Erlangen , Lausanne and Munich . He completed his studies in 1987 with the 2nd state examination. In 1993 he received his doctorate on the subject of "The change in the supply and safety regulations of the Euratom Treaty through subsequent practice" at Bielefeld University .

In 1987 he joined the Foreign Service . He was deployed at the headquarters of the Foreign Office , as well as in Pakistan and Uzbekistan . From 1994 to 1996 he worked in the Private Office of the NATO Secretary General in Brussels. Between 1996 and 1998 he was Deputy Ambassador to the German Embassy in Riga . In 1998 he worked in the NATO department, which was followed in 1999 as deputy head of the department for migration and asylum in the Foreign Office. Because of this position, he was also questioned in the Visa Committee of Inquiry into the Visa affair . From 2003 to 2005 he headed the press department of the German Embassy in The Hague , and from 2005 to 2007 he was Deputy Ambassador at the German Embassy in Nigeria . After working in the Department for International Energy Policy at the Federal Foreign Office, he was head of the Policy Department for Africa Policy, Relations with the African Union, Southern Africa and the Great Lakes from 2008 to 2012 .

From January 2013 to July 2016 Manig was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kinshasa ( Democratic Republic of the Congo ). From August 2016 to June 2019 he was permanent representative of the ambassador and head of the consular and economic department at the German Embassy in Hanoi ( Vietnam ). In July 2019 he took up his post as German ambassador in Baku ( Azerbaijan ).

Manig is married and has two children.
