Wolfgang Rothe (Romanist)

Wolfgang Rothe (born January 11, 1920 in Danzig -Oliva; † December 11, 1974 in Münster ) was a German Romance studies and linguist.

life and work

Rothe received his doctorate in 1952 in Rostock under Rudolf Brummer on the basket names in the French and Provencal dialects . He was imprisoned in the GDR for attempting to escape from the GDR . He completed his habilitation (after leaving the GDR) in Kiel with Harald Weinrich with structures of the subjunctive in French (Tübingen 1967). As a colleague of Manfred Höfler, Rothe was a professor at the University of Düsseldorf .
