Rudolf Brummer

Rudolf Brummer (born April 23, 1907 in Radebeul , † October 1, 1989 in Munich ) was a German Romance and Catalan scholar .

life and work

Brummer studied in Leipzig, Paris and Breslau and received his doctorate in 1932 in Breslau with Fritz Neubert with studies in French Enlightenment literature following J.-A. Naigeon (Breslau 1932). In 1943 he completed his habilitation there on The narrative prose poetry in the Romance literatures of the 13th century (Vol. 1, Berlin 1948). At the University of Rostock he became associate professor in 1946 and full professor in 1948 for Romance philology. In 1958 he left the GDR illegally and was professor in Mainz from 1959 to 1972 . Brummer was honorary president of the German-Catalan Society. The German Association of Catalans named a research grant after him.
